At the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) Zacatenco campus, there has been concern among students due to a case of animal abuse. The incident was recorded by the students, who witnessed how the institution's authorities used force against two dogs that were on campus.
Teresa Reyes, an Automotive Engineering student, witnessed how the authorities violently removed one of the dogs, beat it, and abandoned it in the school parking lot. Teresa stated: "I was leaving the building when I noticed that the authorities had already caught a little dog; as no other student did anything, I started recording to have evidence. The little dog was already bleeding; they were pulling it really roughly, and although the authorities kept hitting it, the dog never bit back."
After the video was shared on social media, thousands of young people expressed their rejection of animal cruelty and pointed out that the dogs at the school have never been violent towards students or staff. Other students mentioned that this is not the first time cases of animal abuse have been reported at the IPN Zacatenco, which generated greater concern among the student community.
Although the IPN issued a statement explaining that the staff acted against the dogs due to violent behaviors, students rejected these statements. Rescuers and foundations are searching for the dogs to provide them with necessary medical attention.
Additionally, Odet Orozco, a park ranger at El Tepeyac National Park, witnessed the moment when IPN authorities abandoned one of the dogs in the park's parking lot. Despite a report being made to the Animal Surveillance Brigade, the whereabouts of the abused dog have not yet been determined.
IPN students have stated that the dogs living at the school do not pose any risk, as their coexistence with students has been peaceful. They have expressed their discontent with the violent treatment received by the animals and have demanded justice through the dissemination of the incident on social media.
